Mobile Gas Partners with the American Red Cross to Offer Free Adult CPR Training Classes

MOBILE, Ala., May 21, 2010 – No one can predict an emergency but everyone can be prepared for one.  American Red Cross training can give you the vital knowledge and skills you’ll need to respond to a life-threatening situation with confidence.

Mobile Gas, a Sempra Company, is partnering with the American Red Cross to offer two free, four-hour, adult cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training classes.  Both classes will be held on Saturday, May 22, 2010.  The morning session starts at 8:00 a.m. and the afternoon class commences at 12:30 p.m.  The classes will be held at Mobile Gas headquarters, 2828 Dauphin Street.

The classes are currently full.  Participants were required to pre-register in advance by calling (251) 436-7940.  Registrations were taken on a first come, first reserved basis.

Attendees will learn how to recognize and care for breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults until advanced medical help arrives.

“On average, it takes emergency personnel 10 minutes to arrive on scene,” said Sandra Lanier, health and safety director for the American Red Cross Alabama Gulf Coast Chapter.  “For someone who is choking or has stopped breathing that may be too late. By learning simple rescue skills, you can go from being a helpless bystander to a person with the ability to take control and help someone during an emergency,”

“Safety is a top priority at our company,” said Kevin Saucier, manager of Safety and Technical Training for Mobile Gas.  “The community depends on us, so we emphasize a commitment to safety and preparedness in all of our activities.  That’s beneficial to employees in the workplace, and it extends to our personal lives as well.  We’re pleased to partner with the American Red Cross to offer this training to the community.”

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will receive an adult CPR certification card (good for one year), a CPR skill card, and a personal safety emergency pack.
